Darned thing with opening doors is that the building is a solid. there is no inside to it. i agree with the furniture thing. ive already added alot more things to it. Now i need to get alot more people to add.

Elf: Sorry dude, I can't really help out with tropical plants - not much call for 'em here in the UK. I often use combinations, though - scattering a few flowers over a fern etc. to add variety, and changing the colours of your flower models.

I do have an elderly couple you may be able to use, though:

Looking forward to your next version, fella

i like your trees, especially your broad-leafed tree. the maps of the trunks
        could be displaced.
for me the image looks like a realistic model, not like a realistic photo or view. maybe some colors have too many saturation. or the color of the skie doesn´t fit to the rest of the picture.

cool looking old people. shame they are too cartoony.
thanks for the comments chris. i do plan on lowering saturation in the final as well as rendering out a z-buffer so i can have lots of fun in photoshop

The main reason it looks like a model is the view, Elf. It's as though the viewer is looking down on a tabletop; a trick they still use in film to make the subject look smaller. In Land of the Giants (remember that classic?), the little people were always shot from above while the "giants" were always towering over the camera - little else was needed for the perception of size.

Personally, I never try for photorealism in my outdoor scenes anyway. When I paint oils/watercolours I aim for a nice looking piece, not a photograph. At the end of the day, if you manage to illustrate all the features your client needs and the end result is pleasing to the eye, does it matter that it doesn't look like a photo?

It's a really nice looking piece, mate, I can't wait to see the next version

                      Congrats, looks great!

I like the clumps of garden around the pool area where it looks like the bushes are displaced and slightly longer and greener than the grass. People are good too, can you say what library they are from? (im trying to collect as much as possible at the moment). Are those birds in the trees in the top right? nice touch there...2d/3d?

architecture looks a little bit ugly/dated to me but thats up to the client eh. the only issues I wonder about:

scale of the pool tiles: look to be about 800x800
detail of roof tile edges (no ridge capping? i dont know)
                      stones a bit more dirty

I think you have got it to the point where there really isnt much anyone can say to improve it (I think) so nice work

Elf, you da man - it looks great. If your client's not happy now then he never will be.

How did you create the pink bushes? I can see you've used the same deciduous tree as the base, but how did you get the pink flowers on them? Are they scattered or placed by hand? Oh, wait, you did them post didn't you? Clone tool in PS from a photo perchance? he he nice one...

My only crit is the edges of the footpaths/roads. I suspect you've laid them on top of your grass to make your life easier. I would have painted some grass over the edges in Photoshop to lose those sharp edges:

Otherwise mate, as I said, spot-on. One for your portfolio, eh?

*yeah. the bougainvillea (purple flowering one) is jut a photo i clipped. *hehe i love those birds thanks george.
*The tiles are supposed to be large. i forget how large they are since i did them so long ago and i cant remember now. but they are more than 2'x2' (ive no idea what 800 is, you mean mm o cm? and if so how much is that in inches hehe darn meter system).
*The buildings are extreamly typical of this architectural company.im really not sure who they are trying to please since im sick and tired of seeing the colonial style thats seen everywhere on this island.
                          *The people are poser
*Here is the clients comments on the render " think this is a huge improvement - and we should put this into Ins and Outs as is - perhaps a section of it?." (ins and outs is a magazine) i get the impression that its still not what he wants, and why the hell just "a section of it" when i went to so much trouble to do the WHOLE of it!! sheesh. Basically i had 1 1/2 weeks to work on this on a 750$USD budget and it took me 1 week more with the stupid additions he requested to which im charging them an extra 500$USD. I was crazy to do this on that budget and timeline in the first place and i know he got way more than a 1250$ project however im assuming he still wants more or less a 5000$ project for the original price of 750$ grrr

lots of mixing of the normal max procedurals to get a cool looking displacement for the rock. then rather than copying the rocks thusands of times (which was make 1000's of displacement modifyers) i just copied the rock element. the rock was basically a sphere with a meshsmooth set to 1subdiv and then i converted to editable poly. this way the displacement is on one object rather than lots. the poly count on the rocks remains the same but its better if its 1 object
