  • DOFPRO2 first test

It's a scene from a stand where I'm testing some "studio lighting" humm...
    Here a Dofpro2 test,(Richard Rosenman's plugin).
Hope you like it C&C welcome .

The perseverence with lighting was well worth it. Looks really good.
I'll have to try some IES light.
      The DOF is very subtle.
      Like it!

At that scale you would not get any DOF effect. The table would have to be a lot closer to camera to see anything. You may want to use a much longer lense to get any type of DOF effect at that scale. On the order of 200+ mm. Also, why are the elements that are out of focus so much brighter? Is that an artifact of the DOFPRO2? When you do your DOF are you using a HDR floating point image? Does DOFPRO2 support that?

humm, thank's to point your finger on this.
Like I said this is a first try, so I'm not very familiar with DOF and since I have buy it I wanted to use it for anything

I'm not sure that the photograph and physical laws rocks in every case so in images to enhance an object you can also make a false effect which blur the rest no?
When I learned drawing, teacher said to us that we must draw not that we think to see but that we see.

The highlight area which are out of focus are a part of the DOFPRO2 effects. This is a *.TIF and Deph map is *.BMP.

Generally you only get DOF effects in cases were object are very close to camera, such as with macro lenses. Or with very long lenses. DOF is an effect that is very easy to overuse and/or use incorrectly. Even your very subtle DOF seems wrong to me. No offense, but this is just my experience having to match lenses for film. On the other hand, the new Physical Camera in Vray does it really well because it is based on the physics of cameras. What is also cool about it is that it warps the lense correctly as well. Try and do THAT in scanline... HA!

The reason I ask about the the use of HDR is because it becomes critical when doing an a DOF effect to use an HDR image to get the correctly blooming. If you use an 8bit clamped image such as your Tif, the bright sources will not bloom correclty and create the correct bokeh effect.

Hehe I'm a good player so "kick in my ass! "
I agree and thanks to clarify all these effect. Now I need to found the good felling to use it. I though that in every case we can put somewhere in an image a DOF effect. Could you tell me if that's right, I must learn that

Again... this is just the way I feel about it, and you did ask for C&C. I think that Post DOF effects are cool and can work in some cases since it is fast, I don't think this is the right one, or the right way. The cool thing is that you can try it with the Physical camera on simple geometry if you want and use it for reference.
