Something I was working on yesterday for a television ID pitch. The power of HDRI. I didn't use any lights for this - it was a little tricky getting seperation between the front and back of the object - in the end I used a reflection blocker to make the front pop a little. If anybody has idea's on how you combine high contrast reflective objects ( using HDRI in enviroment map ) and Vray lights to create depth through shadows - I'm all ears, it never seems to work for me.

It was a really quick turn around - the materials aren't really anything special. I used Vray proxies for the duplicate objects - had lots of problems seeing them in the viewports but they really keep the file size down.

I did a tiny bit of Photoshop on the first image to blur a nasty reflection from the HDRI map - you see the mapping seam as I rotated the HDRI.

This is my first image post - usually my stuff in under NDA - but since nobody mentioned that - I suppose I can slip it in. Hope you like it.

I was really happy with how these turned out.

    looks very nice..
Im not shure its what ur looking for but...
add a fallofmap to you reflectionslot, set it to Shadow / light, this way you can control the reflection amount in the shadow area of your mat.
    Hope it helps

Thanks a million - Falloff eh ? - Very interesting - I'll have to give that a shot - It think that might just work.

Thanks for you compliments and help.

the light/shadow falloff could be a good choice. You could also add some depth of field in post to add depth. You could also try using the overide material to control how your glass plates look when they show up in reflections or refractions.

Your images look cool. I like the sense of scale you're getting with the detail you modeled in there.

          Excellent

Great info guys - I was doing some tests with the falloff material - light and shadow seems be just the ticket. I am also a little embarassed that I never really used the material override before - I can't wait do some tests using it, now I really hope we get the job - it will be fun doing some big shiny graphics . I'll post some tests with my newly discovered toys - I'll have to buy some more storage space - I think I just exceed my free bandwidth

          Thanks again.
