  • Quick Office Exterior

    Hello fellow vrayers,

Had the opportunity to work on something that I can show. It was really quick and dirty, I have about 14 hours total in the project. It was created from napkin sketches and has already seen about 3 revisions within that amount of time.

I am sure it will see a few more revisions before it is complete, and I will hopefully be able to add a little more depth to it in those revisions.

C&C welcome, I might be able to add and adjust before I get busy again.

I know these type of projects well.....

Very good for 14 hrs, I usually get projects like that from my employers, then when everyone agrees they like it the client takes it at face value and requests an outside resource do the final image 'properly', they get charged 3x plus what I am charged out at, are given weeks instead of days to do the image and it usually isn't any better, not unlike another large architectural firm I used to work for.

Large expanses of grass usually put the kibosh on images, even though no photography exists and they will not commission any.

Car looks promising with a bit more work, where is it from?, I got so p****d off asking for cars etc I modelled my own, but even simple ones take long enough.

We only have a few high-res cars, if I remember correctly they are from turbosquid. We have retextured them for our needs.

I know what you mean about the client taking the "final" work elsewhere. Comparing what they were seeing the day before they saw that, I could understand, but I had a little time to polish and I hope to see it come back to us because of that little bit of polish.

      Thanks for the comments!

It all looks too clean. You need a lot more "dirt" in there. But....what can you do with little time?!?!?

are the trees specific to the project? If not, Id replace them, the grass and the 'concrete' path to the building. Tighten those up and my eye will stop resting on them and move to the building, which is the focus of the image to begin with.

With regards to the building, its looking pretty good for the time invested. Id throw in some larger scale texture to the tiled 'concrete?' wall. Maybe also try and lesseing the contrast between the blocks just a tad, it looks a bit fakish. I think your metal is fine, the glass is fine. The red base looks a bit strange, but Ill take your word that it would be that color. Lighting wise, maybe try a more bluish skylight (maybe a darker blue) and a warmer sun to hopefully give better contrast between light and shadow.

EDIT: oh and the composition of the image could use some work, but Ill refrain since I dont know if your camera is locked down to this view.

The trees were a last second toss-in from our proxy library, I don't like that one either

The panels are a metal composite, the variation is probably a bit much as you mentioned. The red base is either marble or granite, I tried going with a reddish brown and the architect said "red, I want red," so I guess you could say he got what he wanted

The camera was another architect request, "can you rotate it this way a little bit more...there, that's perfect"

He didn't like this one, so I didn't develop it any further:

            Thanks for the C&C!

How did you create the tiling for the building face?

looks like standard tile procedural material to me.
