  • bad mapping and fake DOF

    hi guys

the reed-mapping is bad. so does anybody know how to map this correctly, should i unwrap it?
the DOF was made in PS (i didn't have the time to do it right).

    have a nice week end

If you want i'll unwrap it in modo for you. I've never tried Max's pelt mapping so I wouldn't know where to start there, but i've definitely done things like this before in Modo.

Also if you have the original render and depth buffer I can show you a neat trick to get cleaner DOF

I would be very interested to see a screen cap of the geometry when you have it unwrapped in modo.

Unwrapping works great for irregular meshes when working with irregular maps such as characters and other amorphous objects. I've found it is not as great when you have a more regular pattern such as this. Often it is hard to get a consistent scale and orientation across the geometry.

Anyway, please post wip images if you don't mind.

              Give this a try

              http://www.scriptspot.com/3ds-max/lscmunwrap

works great, a real time saver, just select seams, and the scale of your texture is uniform through the model.. enjoy

I did this on Monday. It's not perfect, the pattern gets a bit bigger where the tube is thicker, but it should be slight enough as to not be too much of an issue.
