  • Grizzly Bear Music Vid

Hey people, I just wanted to share my latest personal project. It is a music video for the song "Two Weeks" by Grizzly Bear. I did this during my free time just for a creative outlet. The result has little post work, it is largely straight render. It is also one long camera move. C&C welcome:

Incredible work! I'm totally blown away, especially because it was a labour of love. I was convinced it was a physical model at the beginning because the hand made look is so well done. The best music promo I've seen in a long time.

There's some great stuff on your reel too.

That - is absolutely f**king outstanding.

How long did it take from conception to end?

If I had one critique it's that it has a very strong Little Big Planet vibe - but then it would be hard to have anything with cardboard & string that wouldn't at the moment.

Gabe, this is simply fabulous! You captured the mood and tempo of the track perfectly, and the style is gorgeous! It reminds me a lot of the Super Furry Animals "It's Not the End of the World" video that was featured at Siggraph back in 2002 which I always thought was brilliantly done. Their dioramas were more steampunk in style though. I've got tickets to see Grizzly Bear with some friends in Boston this October, and I'll definitely be thinking of your animation when they play!

                      Thanks guys!

It was stretched out over about 4 months, but if I had been working on it during regular work hours it probably would have been about 4 weeks.
I have to admit, also, I do love the Little Big Planet style, it certainly had an influence.

In camera DOF. Looks better than any post technique I think. Same for MoBlur. The fur was applied as max fur, converted to geometry and proxied.

                            Fantastic!
The thing that works so well with the video is the timing to the music. The little details lke the birds swooping down in time with the beat works fantastically.
