  • Quick shop animation WIP

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a5SZptmjwCA

Couple of days to model/texture/light. A day of post. 1 bloke. Quite a straightforward animation.

Need to find a way of adding some 'sparkle' but the plugins I have don't work with the ancient software I am using.
    Kind Regards,
    Richard Birket

nice stuff, although id say some of the interior shots are overexposed (it looks odd when you come from outside to in, and its more sunny inside than it was outside)

other than that very good, particularly for a few days work i particularly like the little distortions in the mirrored wall..

Nice work for such a short amount of time.....Agree with the other comments also.

What did you use for DOF in post??

That is pretty cool. Like the music. What's up with the sliding wall/screen around 31sec?
          Kind Regards,

... yes pretty cool. there is only one thing i really don´t like ... the floor ... does not match the "expensive" look (just my opinion) ... but anything else ... perfect under these circumstances

              Thanks all.

              Bobby - many thanks
Super gnu - thanks. The mirror actually worked out OK. Its one of those things that you can't really tell for sure until you've animated and rendered the thing. Regarding exposure, I know what you mean. I have 'pushed' the interior shots quite a bit to give them a stylised look.
3DMK - DOF was done with Frischluft in AE. Still got a lot to learn with this technique.
DVP3D - ta. You mean the blurry bits in the mirror? I was just messing about with some blurry fingermarks and dust: my concept was to imagine a child has sneezed all over it!
Tryharder - Fair comment. Its actually using the floor generator plugin which is fabulous. I intended to get a real closeup shot of the floor so you can see the chamfers and details, but never got around to it.
              Kind Regards,

This is really good for a few days work! I agree that a couple of bits are a little over exposed, but your going for that dreamy look so it's fair enough. Really like your camera work. I really need to get that DOF plug-in, AE's built in one is terrible in comparison.

Did you use a render farm for this?

Just our own in-house farm. Render time between 15 and 30 minutes per frame. The DOF plugin is good, but can be a bit tricky to use. It only works in certain shots where there aren't any transparent objects, like glass windows and the like.

RE: exposure, I've just looked at the YouTube edit and it does seem more blown out than our uncompressed edit. Weird. YouTube must do stuff to it in the conversion I guess.

Extremely nice piece! I sort of agree with the over-exposure comment in the upstairs shot, though if you rendered exr sequences, that should be easy to correct. IN any case, this is a very fine piece of work.

                        Thanks for that. Appreciated.

I am going to try and set up an account with Vimeo and see if that helps with the exposure problem that YouTube is showing.

No I mean it looks like the whole wall (about 3m wall) is sliding from right to left behind the furniture

I still don't get what you mean DVP3D... the camera is just panning past a mirror isn't it?

Tricky - Sounds good, look forward to seeing the Vimeo version!

Much better on the Vimeo site:-

(don't get me wrong - its still bright upstairs, but that was the clinical/icy look I was going for - maybe a bit overdone though!)
