    Hello everyone

here is my first start with vray for su

    I have a few questions

    1. How do i soften the shadows?

    2. Is there anyway to make line render or show up?

    3. I have made two surfaces for the glass one surface that faces out and one surface that faces inside each surface is seperated b 1/" should I just use one surface and apply the class material to both sides. I do anticipate doing an interior rendering as well.

    4. Is ther a good source for a vray brick material?

    5. is there anyway to import vray *.mat materials?

    6. is thare a good source for info on adding lights or emitters?

note there is a bunch of modeling to go yet and a bunch more material tweaking I am just testing the waters so to speak. This is not intended to be a final rendering just enough to inform me about what questions to ask.

    thank for any responses.

I'm not sure how to go about that currently - but when we add our actual direct light sources you will be able to handle that through them.

Currently there is no means for line rendering. We've discussed implementing the VRayToon plugin - but I don't know how far off that is.

We're working on a mat - > vismat converter but its not done at the moment

Our docs are still under development. We will be adding our direct light sources (at least a point light and rect light ) in the coming weeks.

I hope that clears up a couple of your issues - I think our future Beta releases should also alleviate some of your issues.

Thanks for the response. So far I'm in love with Vray. It will become the defacto renderer for sketchup. It's so imbedded in sketchup and it allows me to essentially stay within sketchup and never have to go to a seperate program. I'll keep plugin away. If I get a little ahead with finances I'll definately purchase this pligin.

Again I'm just happy to be able to have a more realistic rendering. I'll play with emitter surfaces and see If I can come up with a rendering that I'm going for.

I for sure do feel the same. This is really a dream come true. I've always loved Sketchup since i first saw it some years ago. And now my favourite renderer added to it!

Getting farther along now. I am getting hooked by this combination.

here are some more recent attempts.

            straight sketchup output

            straight vray output

            post processing in PS

I'll need to add vray materials to the cars and figure out whats going on with the glass I want to be able to see into the interior IE: its supposed to be clear glass, and I also want there to be reflections on the glass.

I have made a few attempts and using an HDR image which were not successfull.

There's so much to learn about rendering now. but I'm happy I can do it now all within sketchup.

Thanks Dalomar. Some of the tutorials for architectural illustration stated that a simple glass should only have a fresnel applied to a reflection layer. I don't think my glass material has a diffuse layer. I'll try addin one with a transparency.

                Thanks
