  • Glass full of marbles

Here's one I did recently to test out some refraction settings. I made the glasses in 3DS Max and imported them into sketchup. I wanted to get the chrome spheres to be reflective within the glass. I found this to be impossible without removing the refraction layer. However when doing this, I found that my glass then appeared to be two separate panes, inside and out. This was really obvious with the glass that is laying down. So, I ended up making two separate glass materials and applied one without refraction to the upright glasses with the marbles in them, and one with refraction (affect shadows checked) to the glass laying on it's side. This was the only way I could get the light to pass through enough to allow the chrome to be reflective.

    Check it out

Here's one without refraction on all of the glasses.....before any post processing....notice the glass on it's side.

    Here's the sketchup setup scene

Very Nice looking images. The atmospehere is awesome..did you use HDRI to light the scene? The only thing that bothers me, and I guess it is sort of a big deal because of how much of the image it takes up, are the glasses themselves. I dont think it is a texture problem, its the geometry. Try smoothing it out or using a new glass. That will make this look pretty much photorealstic (IMO). But good work and keep it up.

very nice earthmover. the only thing are the double reflections from the double glass. ussually we used single glass. on the other hand single glass produces distortion. mmm maybe Dalomar can help us here.

Thanks Nomer. I wish I could find out how to get rid of the double reflections also. I will have to make the glass with one line only before it's lathed. A glass made the same way will render fine in Vray for 3ds, but sketchup is a different animal.
