• VRay -Sketchup & 3ds Max - Various New Projects

Hey everyone, I havent been able to visit the forums nearly as often as id like to lately, and I apologize to all the artists out there that I havent been able to help critique...but here are some of my latest projects that have been consuming all my time. Most all of the modeling was done in sketchup then taken into 3ds max to render with V-ray. Ive been having a lot fun getting more familiar with the physical camera (and just photography in general) and I may have gotten carried away with using a fish eye lense, haha. But im really starting to enjoy utilizing the benefits of an actual camera. Unfortunately, some of these projects got more attention than others, but I hope you all at least enjoy the images. If you have any questions, please dont hesitate to ask, and I will do my best to respond as quickly as possible.

Looking good. I find the fish-eye effect distracting though - a little goes a long way.

second set of renders is better.
i just do not like the distorted cameras. i think you need to improve your illumination but your work seems realistic anyway.
the last esterior looks great for me.

Hey Steelers

Great to see you posting again. Love all your images. But the first 3 stand out to me.
They are very warm and easy on the eye. have a really good vibe to them.
The lighting and camera work are great.
I'm sure you client was super happy with them.
Other great points is your use of people. Such a hard thing to include.
One thing i think you need to work on is the illumination on some images.
They are technical good but lacking that warmth that draws you in. Which i feel
you capture so well in the first 3 images.

Always a joy to look through your work.
Don't take this long to post again.

Hey Steeler,
As always great work!! Love the work you produce. Always inspiring!! ;D
I ike the fisheye affect but I also think it is best used in limited amounts.

Keep posting so we can be inspired

thank you all for the feedback, I really appreciate it and am glad everyone seems to like my work.

Holmes: Thanks again for your comments. I hope to post more regularly, ive just been swallowed up in work. I agree with your points...a few of the projects needed more time committed to better illumination, but the Savoy Restaurant is intentionaly lower to give that lounge/club feel. But the first set is my favorite too.

Rodrigo: All of these renderings were modeled in SU then rendered in Vray for max. The vegetation is a combination of random downloads and packages that were purchased from evermotion. They have a lot of quality models there, but they need to be used in 3ds max or something other than SU, because SU cant handle the high poly count. Thanks again for the feedback.

Steeler, is it primaraly due to poly count that you do your rendering in Max rather than SUP? Or are there other reasons?

Re: VRay -Sketchup & 3ds Max - Various New Projects

There are a number of reasons I render in max instead of SU. I feel bad discussing this on here, because it is a vray for SU forum and Vray for SU is a great program...but SU has its limitations.

Reasons I use vray for max:
-Poly count is a huge one....vegetation alone will kill SU if you want to use high quality trees and such. Half of these projects would have never been possible in SU for me

-There are more options (for example: render elements like glare, flares, dispersion, vray fur...just to name a few). I wouldnt say these are limitations of vray in SU, its more of SU causing the problems

-I think vray is quicker and more predictable in max

-And one of the biggest reasons is the use of Vray RT. The real time plugin is a huge part of my workflow, because it makes lighting set ups so much quicker and you can play more with camera settings and get instant feedback. Now you have to have a computer that can handle this, but if you do, its so freeing to be able to use it and not rely on a million test renderings.

Vray for SU is still great though and there are ways to make it work for most any project. Getting into max opens up options, but u still want to get very familiar with max because it is a bit different of a workflow. Hope that helps

true, but you still post your images to explain the possibilities of Max, although this is a Vray for Rhino & sketchup forum, smack in the face for the Masters on here, production & development of both products and future software. Ive seen astonishing renders abilities from the software. think its best if you post your max models on max site...
