I think it's a useful discussion. I keep toying with the idea of using max, but then I go and find a way to make it work in SU+vray. I can make architectural models so much quicker in SU, and that's a big part of my workflow. Anyway, I think healthy competition, discussion of pros and cons is good.

I agree with you Andybot . I have often thought about using Max but have always worked around any issues I have come up against with SUP. I mostly do Interior renders so vegitation issues is never a problem for me although animating walk throughs is a bit tricky with SUP. In my opinion VRAY for SUP rocks!! ;D

Re: VRay -Sketchup & 3ds Max - Various New Projects

Derek: Its not a smack in the face to anyone, at least I dont intend for it to be that way. If you search the forums, U will find all sorts of threads relating to this sort of topic...many of them with the developers and people associated with the Vray for SU/Rhino product saying the exact same things I am. I post on here because 80-90% of my modeling is done with SU, and I started into rendering with Vray for SU. I have built a familiarity/relationship with the people on here and the SU forum and get more out the discussions I have with guys like nomeradona, 40th, and etc... instead of the bigger 3ds max sites like evermotion & CGarchitect. I still post there from time to time, but often get little to no feedback. I also post here, becasue although vray is more powerful in max, it still has the same core settings as the SU & rhino versions....I look for critiques of my work, but also to help people that may have questions about my images. I have been very involved in this forum for the past 4 years, and never once have I posted to upstage any of the artists and developers at ASGvis. I give those guys the utmost respect for all the hard work they do, and I wouldnt be where I am today without having had access to vray for SU. Im sorry that you took my post or my work that way, but please be clear of my intentions...I mean because aslo, they do ultimately sell products for max so I consider my post useful, especially to artists that have gone through the transition stage that I have when considering a SU to max workflow.

Robert, I actually dont export my SU files. I have 3ds max 2011 and it natively willl import SU files. I believe max 2010 does too, but any versions before that will require you to export your SU files as .3ds. This thread may help with that a bit (http://forum.asgvis.com/index.php?topic=6455.0)

Hi Adam,
It's great to see you here again!
I love your outcomes. The fish-eye lens effect is interesting and in some way artistic, but imho it doesn't fit for architectural viz.

Derek, I don't agree with you in this particular case, since you can practically say that steelers05 grow up here, So for me and i believe for other members here he's always welcome.

Btw, Adam, I would realy like to kknow what FreeAgent is up to today ??? ??? (my guess is he have switched to Max)

Re: VRay -Sketchup & 3ds Max - Various New Projects

thank you 40th, I appreciate that. Yeah your right though, I have a hard time convincing people to use a fish eye lense for their projects. I think it has its place, but for very few cases in arch vis. The savoy project was the only one that I kinda had to use it, because the space was so small and the client wanted to see as much as possible.
I havent seen anything from freeagent in a while either....hopefully its because he is too busy with work, cause that is not a bad thing. Last few times he has posted, I recalled him using a very similar work flow...SU modeling, then rendering vray for max. Hopefully we see his work again soon, cause it was always a pleasure.

Robert: open your material editor and use the "eyedrop" tool to select your material and then change it from a standard material to a vray material. U will then have to replace any bitmaps that you used for the diffuse maps but when you do that, they should keep the same UV cooordinates as ur SU materials had. If not, attach a UVW modidfier to the any geometry that needs it
