If you want to go more like office loft style I would have concrete floors instead..... Wood floor for offices is not ideal...you could have it only on the private offices, the open area it needs a very hard surface or the opposite(carpet)...even I would have exposed concrete for those columns.
I would take the water dispenser out of there, it looks cheap and old..... New offices have those on the walls by the kitchenette.

They requested the floor, but they did ask for it to be lighter. They mentioned a concrete floor, and I might try that, too.

If you have wood it should be lighter for sure and I would use it to define small areas.

Here, is an update. I think it is looking better. I am not sure how Windows8 spans its desktop. Does anybody know? I have it on several laptops, but nothing with multiple monitors. I can imagine the tiles keep on going, but this is showing the screens mirrored, which I guess, is okay. The client had feedback, which got rid of a lot of things.

              looking better, and more inviting.
re: windows screens, I am still on 7, but you can choose how you want it to behave, so it is up to you, I guess.
I have mine so it is acting like one big screen, and it is good.

Yes. I have Win7 with three screens, and I don't mirror; I extend. So, one as the icons, and the others are just the wallpaper.

I still think that wood floor is not the best option, it's not common that material on the floor because noise, maintenance specially with rolling chairs everywhere.
the ceiling is taking all the color from the floor and columns and beams...I would use vrayoverride (GI) mat for those ones.

flino2004 makes good points...most of my commercial office jobs spec. things like Mannington or Tandus carpeting for the flooring. On occasion they will spec some "wood-look" rolled goods or tiles for smaller areas like reception or coffee nooks. Some of those sites also have good gadgets for making layout images of their swatches.
i.e. brick, quarter turn, monolithic, so often you can get good results quickly.

                    +1 for the override material.

if the floor is concrete i would go gray with columns, beams and ceiling in white....maybe a wood ceiling with steel (industrial look) above the reception.and this ceiling could fold to become a back wall behind the reception with a logo on it.
more desks on the back and where you have the desks (foreground) and i would have a very slick sofas and tables with magazines and accessories to be more like lounge/waiting space.

all great ideas, but they want the space to be open, so it looks larger. I thought of the seating area, but I didn't go that route; they did mention 2 desks on either side. I like the white ceiling, which I think I'll do in post.

I think I prefer the previous renders. The room looks a little flat in terms of lighting. The concrete floor looks a little lacking in reflection/detail too.

I wanted to ask, at what point do you draw the line with a very simple brief like this ? Until they are happy and they just keep paying you ?
                            Regards

I'm personally happy with this one. This will be the second iteration I'll be showing them; taking into account their feedback, I think they'll be happy. I thought about making the concrete floor a little shinier, but after looking at reference photos, I decided not to. I might give it a try if I have time. I don't charge per hour, so I'll tweak it, until I'm happy. I tend to tweak long after the job is closed.

Here, is the final. They wanted a very nondescript space. They liked the light wood floor apposed to the concrete, flat gray furniture, and they even requested the white chairs.
