I would say cdrom, mainly becuase the shadows on all the other objects are alot darker closer to the table.

Agentdark45 & travistlo have both got a good set of peepers.

Sorry to make everyone guess like that. I could have just come right out and showed everyone, but where would the fun be in that right? Thanks for playing along!

I deliberately selected the items I did to try to confuse everyone. I figured if I put something that looked fake right on top of what actually was fake perhaps no one would see the forest for the trees. Please don't hate me for the deception. It was all in good fun.

The two people who guessed right both commented about the shadows. I agree that the shadows are what give it away the most. I tried to make them better but I just couldn't seem to. you'd think it would be easy, but no. I'll work harder on that next time around.

                  Thanks! :P

the only thing on the CDR that gave it away for me was a lack of a seam down the side.
                    Other than that very convincing

I have no experience with image comp. how do you use an ambiant occlusion pass? Whats the purpose?

The way I do ambient occlusion passes is to just assign a flat white material to all objects in the scene. Turn on only skylight and make its color white. This pass is then multiplied over the other layers to add extra shadow detail and give the shot a somewhat GI like look.

Shadow pass -- I use Blur's "Onion" script to apply an alternate material to my objects which has a Vray wrapper material and has the matte properties turned on.

Reflection pass -- kinda hacked but I have a black environment, then then drive is made invisible to camera.

Ambient light pass -- just the drive rendered with an omni light set to ambient only.

Key light pass -- just the drive rendered with key lights.

                                hi Seraph135

what do you mean with "Blur's "Onion" script". I can't find a script with this name, but i would love to try it...

could you tell me the right name or the url to download it?

                                thanks in advance
                                best regards
