Just thought I would post a wip of a side fun project Im working on. Its going to be a dream renderfarm type of scene. Have a cool anim in mind, though the polycount is pretty high at moment. Need to optimize my mesh quite a bit. heres a small sample. Not really happy with the fluorescent lights, but cant find a good texture of one. Had to create one myself. Anyone have a good texture of a fluorescent light cover?

Hey Percy, those lights look pretty cool to me. I believe that by just adding walls, the falloff on them might make the lights look nicer then they seem to be right now. Just a guess...

    Nice theme by the way!

i think the lights are just a little too yellow, but other than that they look good.

yeah, mostly because I didn't know much about vray yet, and it was for animation as the project assembled itself...annoying

what i didnt understand is why if you have a raised floor why did you have cables and stuff coming in from the ceiling ?

network cables ran through the tracks on the ceieling, power cables came in through the floor...the raised floor was mostly for ventillation purposes

seperating the network cabeling from the power cableing is standard practice in server rooms to cut down on interference, and to make things easier for the people having to deal with power or network

Sometimes server rooms are also raised in case of a flood.

this is a special rack system. so its setup in a seemingly impossible fashion....haha but seriously I noticed that error, but I want to have my rack system have em from all sides, so Ill have to rethink it. Im thinking about 70 of them in a fairly square layout. Was going to have the cables coming up like that in dynedains image, but thats alot of polygons so am having to really be careful about face count. I really want to create an anim from this so if I cant render it in a timely fashion then this is a worthless effort.

btw, I really like your image, and more images certainly would be helpful.

I just used renderable splines for the cables

heres a bit of an update. still alot to do. going to start varying the fluorescent lighting and other things to add to the realism. also work on the ceiling more with ventings etc. render time was about 40mins which isn't bad.
