I am close to decision of buying first render node for our office.
For multiple reasons we are using iMac's and Mac Mini's and while this works well for most of the tasks (AutoCad, Sketchup etc.) it is not very efficient when it comes to rendering with V-Ray.
Therefore we thought of our own, small render farm. The idea is that we will get some PC's that will do the job with use of Swarm, this setup is for rendering only, no other job will be done here, the idea is to get it without display and everything - just on/off when needed.
Here is the spec we are aiming for as for the first render node:
AMD Threadripper 3970X
ASUS Prime TRX40 PRO
128GB DDR4 3200
nVidia GT710 2GB
SSD 250GB Samsung 970 EVO Plus
BeQuiet Base 601
850W GOLD Modular
CPU Bequiet Dark Rock 4 PRO
I checked benchmark and everything but still have no exact comparison between our current machines (Mac Mini 2018, i7-8700 3.2 GHz) and spec that I mention above.
We are mainly rendering in Full HD/2K, still images, interior design, lot of different sources of light and textures.
What performance increase can we expect here?
Would you change anything in this setup (for no more that 10% of price increase)?
