  • Which GTX 580 model should i get?

I have a GTX470 and am thinking its time to upgrade the video card. I need to trickle my existing video card down to another workstation so that's my 'excuse' to upgrade and get a new one for my workstation. For my last few 3d jobs i have been having some pretty poor viewport performance. I have been working with some large landscape terrains and large houses in 3dsmax2012 (for archviz and vray) and the viewport performance gradually declines as the model gets bigger and I get closer to deadline! Not good. Just when i get excited and close to finishing a project, I end up battling viewport performance.

So what is a good upgrade model in the 580 line? Does the 3gb version make a difference for me? My needs are viewport performance above all else.

I know this topic has been beaten to death but advice? Any other models to consider?

3gb is better because u can get more textures at higher resolution to display in viewport...

My video card , a 7950 gx2, just died! Crazy coincidence. So a gtx580 with 3gb is on the way. I hope it's worth it and not just a small step up from the gtx470. We shall see.

Seriously? Thats a great idea. How do i do that? Direct through Nvidia or EVGA? I have had that monster for years and do not remember where i bought it. When i bought it, it was for gaming. Since then i have gotten into 3d and don't game much on my PC anymore.

EVGA, they give very long warranties so just give them a call, explain what happen and ask if its possible to get nvidia - or just pay up extra and get nvidia... Let me know how it goes...

I had ASUS z8pe d18 motherboard that broke and I replaced it for EVGA SR2 so I'm sure u can replace GPU too..

If no then just get new ATI replacement - sell it out of box at ebay and get urself GTX...
