  • laptop/cpu for 3d work (including rendering)

I have a tricky situation where a job im doing may run into a holiday which i cannot move or cancel.

Its a client I wish to keep, so I cannot also tell them to wait 2 weeks..

the alternative would be to bring a laptop with me and do whatever work is needed during the holiday ( yay!)

in that case I would plan on remote desktop to my workstation at home.

However, if due to unforseen issues ( internet down, power outage, software issues) I also have to have the ability to work self-contained.

So, that means a laptop with a certain amount of horsepower.... in any scenario it wont be ideal (the main renders take about 7 hrs on a 64 core 3990 machine) but better than nothing.

apart from this, i have zero need for a laptop really, so i ideally dont want to spend a fortune.

ive seen some pretty meaty gaming laptops, but they cost 4-5000 euros.

im not planning on gpu rendering, so im more concerned about a decent cpu, cooling, and the possibility (?) of 64gb ram.

if it can also be super cheap, light, good looking and slim, that would be ace, but then ive just listed lots of contradictory properties!
