  • New laptop, vista, dr & 32/64 bits

    Hi guys,

I got tired of living a dual life in osx and xp and I have just sold my iMac and have ordered a new Dell laptop. I believe that I have just got a fantastic deal on it too.

For £935 (inc VAT and Shipping) I got:
    2.0ghz C2D
    2gb 667 ram
    160gb hd
    17" WUXGA (1920x1200) screen
Nvidia Geforce GO 7900 gs 256mb
    8x DVD Writer
    9-cell battery
    wifi & bluetooth

It took about 3 phone calls and about an hour of my time to organise the deal but to be honest I am really happy. I think that the final cost is about £500+ cheaper than list.

What I am in a quandary over now though is that the system comes with Vista home premium 32-bit. My other systems are running Vista ultimate 64-bit.

Are there any issues using distributed rendering using max 9 64-bit c/w vray 64-bit as the initiator and using systems running xp or vista 32-bit with max 8 or 9 as rendernodes?

I would like the know any potential road blocks I may face setting up my systems as I have a long walkthrough to render out in the next 2 weeks for work.

Also as a final point, in Vista 32-bit, is the /3gb switch still valid or does it automatically assign 3gb to all applications?

    Thanks!
