  • intel i7 tests

    Hello folks,

    If anyone is interested...

3dspeedmachine recently ran a series of tests on Intel's i7 920 processor. The tests involved turning on and off various features of the i7 to gauge how each configuration affected render times. The tests also offer insights into the i7's auto overclocking and hyper-threading features.

For more information please see the full article here: http://www.3dspeedmachine.com/News/i7/i7review.htm

    Thanks,
    -joe

you will like it these were really impressive times even though the test machine had the low end i7 920. what are you putting in your new machine? i'd be curious to see what the 940 or 965 can do with the same scene.

      best,

        Nice

Bought a ready made i7 as I couldn't build it any cheaper, it came with a 22" widescreen monitor and I am very happy with it, not really 'au fait' with overclocking details so I just use the supplied Asus app and most I can get is 200mhz increase on the base i7. I fiited the Noctua heatsink, cpu temps never over 60 degrees on full load and extremely quiet even with 2 120mm fans.

I have a 920 myself, sitting on my table ready to go. Unfortunately I bought triple channel ddr3 memory, and a board with only 4 slots, so am sending that one back and getting one with 6 slots so i can install all 12 gigs i bought. Also going with raid 0, and a nvidia gtx285 for vid card. I'm pretty psyched for when its all put together. Also got a Dell 22" widescreen monitor. Would have loved to go with the 24", but it would have broke my 2k budget barrier.

                yeah but.......SSD is blazing!
also expensive. I thought if i'd get one it would be just for operating system and programs. But then you need stuff to hold your files which read from disk...I guess few more years and it will be good.
But wait...2012...the end is comig, I guess we wont see that then.

sounds like pretty much what I'll be going with.

What mobo are you using? I'm picking this one up:

                        http://www.bjorn3d.com/read_pf.php?cID=1405

Looks pretty well received, and even includes some neat features, like a mini ssd hdd you can boot into in seconds and get on the web, as well as a lil palm device for instant overclocking stuff.

                          Percy,
I just built an i7 with that mobo, the Asus P6T. It's really solid, with plenty of OC features.

                          My system specs are:

                          Mobo: Asus P6T
CPU: Intel Core i7 965 EE
                          MEMORY: 6GB Corsair XMS2 1666mhz Triple Channel
                          HD: Intel X25-M SSD 120gb....
Video Cards: 2x EVGA Nvidia 260 SSC

It's alot of fun, no problems with anything at all! I love the SSD, it's expensive but really, really great to have, I suggest it, even though the high price.

Sounds nice! Man that SSD must have cost a pretty penny. Compositing must be damn fast though! How's things at AI?
