This is certainly off topic, but I am having trouble finding
an answer anywhere else.
We currently use Max5 moving to 7 very soon.
Win 2k on all slaves and workstations with the exception
of 2 XP's within the 3d group and 2 more XP boxes outside the 3d group
that are slaved at night. The fulltime slaves are all Win2k
My question concerns backburner, when a job is submitted
does the manager recieve a copy of the file (.MAX) to send out or
does it tell the slave where to get the MAX file?
Currently the Max concurrent jobs is set to 3 thinking that there
might be too much traffic going out of the manager though the
errors we get often happen at night with no jobs in the queue.
IT was thinking of putting dual NIC cards in the manager, being unsure
if this would make a difference I cant recommend anything to him
without knowing whether the manager is moving/sending files around
or not.
I seem to remember that the MAX file is zipped and sent to the
slave, then the slave unzips the file in its local temp and begins work.
We have many problems with our manager crashing under load and not
under load and have been unable to pin down the problem. At night we
have well over 70 slaves and our IT guy is wondering if it is a network
traffic issues or not. We get "empty job file" errors, the manager out rigth
locking up and some slaves seem to re-register themselves over and over, these errors seem to occur randomly and I dont think any
have occured at the same time.
Anyone have an idea or tip?
