  • Import .vrmesh

    Hi! Everybody
Am trying to import .vrmesh. I saved that on another file after applying materials. It comes raw you can see in the enclosed attachment.
How do I import that with the materials
    Need help. Please!!!

Unfortunately .vrmesh files do *not* store materials, they only store material IDs (i.e. which parts should be assigned a material with corresponding ID number.).
Depending on application, you may have more luck using the vrscene format, which will save the equivalent of a vrmesh plus the relevant scene data (camera, lights, materials).
Editability after import may vary depending on the application, as well (it's meant as a way to render on the cloud with V-Ray standalone, not as a bridge between applications.).

Sorry for reviving, but I have a follow-up question to OP's problem.
Basically I have a scene with a lot of trees, all imported vrmesh as proxy, with corresponding materials. Now what would be the fastest way of switching out these vrmeshes? Say I need to replace oaks with aspens. I tried just giving the proxy another vrmesh, but then the original Materials are loaded onto the new tree which obviously doesn't work because the mapping is different.
How do I tell the proxy to take new materials?

Or how would you do it? Just flat out start from scratch and create new proxies?

The process should have you change the mesh (loading the aspen), and then assign the new material to the proxy (drag and drop the material from the material editor to the proxy).
If you have non-instanced proxies, this could take a while to do manually, so perhaps look up some script on scriptspot.com to automate the process of swapping the filenames out.
Selecting many proxies, and assigning the new material to all of them is quick, anyway.

Thanks, simply assigning the materials to the new proxies was the part that I was missing, now I feel dumb. These proxies are all instanced, so switching out all trees was quickly done.
