  • Memory Limit Tips / tricks

    Hi All,

What is your memory limit tips for high poly scenes (over 2 million) with vray ?

-I know, adaptive uses mode memory than simple two level. I always use simple two level (1.09)

-Reducing the bucket size saves memory

What else ? Any other setting at system rollout or qmc rollout ?

    Thanks in advance.

Then you should get your Forum name registered with your vray site login name so that you can post in the Members area of the site.

dont take it too personal. its just that if you claim to have a full version then you should have all rights to access the forum and post your questions, comments, problems etc and enjoy the full benifit. however if your claiming to have a full version and you are restricted in your access then it brings about 1 conclusion so we are saying this for your benifit to help lift any confusion or suspision.

I already asked for registration and should get it soon. Full version is belong to my company and didn't know that I can be registered.

Anyway, can we go back to original question or should I open a new topic when I registered.

              Thanks

just updating from the 1.09 to the current beta did ALOT to alleviate those kinds of problems for us. Getting onboard the /3gb wagon couldn't hurt either. Other then that, what you've already mentioned are all good ideas.

Do you only use vray at work???

If so then get them to update to the latest version 1.47.03 and you will have a lot more options for handling large scenes.

Thanks, Da Force and Percy. We will switch to new vray soon. I forgot to mention that we are already using 3GB switch.

                      Hi!

The 3gb switch does help, but we have assembled a pc with 3GB of physical RAM and windows only let us reach 2.78 Gb and then the render stucks. Therefore im assuming the 3Gb switch must be failing somewhere...

3gb switch ~ 2.8gb...so you reached the limit. go dynamic or proxy or both

                          What does dynamic do?

I have a friend using VRAY and from what I can see there is no way to use 7-8GB of memory. Am I right?

Windows XP (32bit) cant support anymore than 3GB anyways.

If you use winxp 64bit then you can uses as much ram as possible!
