Hi i'm trying to get my head around Colour correcting HDR image. I mainly use HDRis to light my exterior/interior shots and noticed there's a big shift from the diffuse colours I input to the rendered result. Of course this is expected but surely I need to colour correct each hdr. I was wondering how you accuratly go about this. Do any of you guys use Xrite colour chart (or similar) when shooting your HDRs to make the colour correction process more accurate? Would this only be relevant on lower dynamic range images like for say backplates which are png/jpeg? I currently have a library of uncalibrated HDRis and want to figure out how to linearize/normalize them if thats the correct terminology?
Could I reverse engineer the photographers colour correction technique by making up an image which has the same known RGB values as an Xrite colour chart, render that in a scene with the HDR and correct the result this way?
Is this a valid workflow? or is there a better approach with this kind of setup?
Also Ive been reading alot about ICC/LUTs camera profiles recently and wondering if you guys work on your scene in linear space then add a suitable LUT afterwards or do you choose one from the start and adjust your scene to suit the profile?
