Opinions on HDRI Hub sIBL-GUI

Before I dive into learning how to apply HDRI lighting with HDRI Hub's sIBL platform. I was hoping to get some opinions as to whether this is a good application or if there are others I might consider.
I know using HDRI for environment and lighting can be tricky and I just want to make sure I spend my time wisely and not go treading down some time wasting path to nowhere.
