  • Proxy 10 houses into one scene

    Hi guys,
I feel there's an obvious solution here but I can find it. I have scenes with 10 or more same houses. I import them via xref scene to the main file but I have to add each one again and again since I have to bind it to its own object to move and rotate. So when I load this main scene it of course takes time because it loads 10 scenes which I also feel is not very memory friendly. I don't really want to use vrayproxy since it's a house and has many separate object, some of which can't be merged anyway.

So is there a way to tell MAX all the houses are the same when I import the house scene?
    Thanks

I don't think xRefs are instancable in 3ds Max at this point. Have you tried exporting the scene as .vrscene and look at the result? It should work fine, even if it has separate objects.

Hm but what then? I can't load many vrayscenes, can I? I thought it was used only to share between other programs.

Not exclusively. You can load as many .vrscenes in your 3ds max scene (Create>Geometry tab>V-Ray>VRayScene) you wish. Instancing them works like a proxy and won't take additional memory.

Have you tried using containers? You can import them all and snap them to reference points. No need to bind

Only read about containers, never used them. And did not know I could use vray scenes like that! Thanks for these suggestions! I'll look into them.

Instead of Xref Scenes you can use Xref Objects as well.
