Hello,
I am trying to find out exactly what the fallowing Vray Object Properties do and don't do: Generate GI, Receive GI, and Visible to GI. There is little info in the documentation and I have seen conflicting descriptions in the forums. If anyone could clear this up for me I would really appreciate it. I currently believe all of the fallowing to be true, but I am still new to Vray and would like to hear from someone who knows for certain.
1) Generate GI = How much indirect light is generated by this object. T/F?
2) Increasing it will make other objects around it brighter, but will not directly increase this object's brightness. T/F?
3) Increasing it may indirectly increase this object's brightness because of the additional light being bounced back from any other objects which are near it. T/F?
4) Decreasing it could make other objects near it dimmer, but will not directly decrease this object's brightness. T/F?
5) Receive GI = The degree to which Indirect light will brighten this object. T/F?
6) Increasing it should increase this objects brightness, with out having any affect on the GI of any other objects. T/F?
7) Decreasing it should decrease this objects brightness, with out having any affect on the GI of any other objects. T/F?
Visible to GI = Weather or not this object will block environmental GI from hitting other objects in the scene. It does not have any affect on how GI affects this object itself or how it's own generated GI affects other objects. T/F?
9) If you leave Generate GI and Receive GI on and check visible, then the object will behave as a normal solid object in the scene, generating it's own GI and somewhat blocking environmental GI from hitting objects behind/under it. T/F?
10) If you leave Generate GI and Receive GI on and un-check visible, then other objects behind/under it may receive more GI. This could be a helpful setting for window glass if you wanted more light to enter a room. T/F?
11) If you turn Generate GI and Receive GI off and check visible, then even though this object will not generate or receive it's own GI, it will still block environmental GI from hitting other objects behind/under it. T/F?
12) If you turn Generate GI and Receive GI off and un-check visible, then this object will not generate or receive it's own GI, nor block environmental GI from hitting other objects behind/under it. This is the only way to completely remove this object form affecting, or being affected by, GI in the scene. T/F?
Thanks much to all for your time and consideration
