I had a flakey problem with a rendering recently. On one vraymaterial, the reflections were moving all over the place as the camera glided along. It looked almost like flickering -- or as if a texture map is changing coordinates and sliding along the surface of an object.
I'm not sure what the exact problem was -- but I went into the material and tried to tweak the reflective properties. I had a bitmap spherically wrapped in the vray environment slot and that was providing most of the reflection.
For some reason though, the reflection wouldn't blur -- it kept coming out crispy regardless of my settings. I even tried using blur offset on the environment's bitmap and the reflection was still crystal clear.
Has anyone seen this problem? If so, what is the workaround?
