  • Amount of Faces in Geometry and Instancing and render speed

Do the amount of faces/polygons in a scene typically going to have a great impact on render speed* or is being economical with them more of a concern for RAM usage?

    * I suppose I'm discounting the idea that smoother surfaces with more curvature are likely to pick up more variations in reflective amounts or create more complex refractive solutions where appropriate. Thinking outside of these situations (or maybe I shouldn't)

Along the same (RAM saving) lines can instancing the same object many times have a great impact on render speed?
If I had one object instanced 1000 times is it worth converting to one big object (if I can spare the RAM)? or even into a VrayProxy?
