  • Direct computation, what?

Well, recently I've been trying some new technique to exterior images, and on some test images I've discovered something rather interesting. Direct computation, to me, has an extremely clean GI for an exterior images. Basically, I'm using direct computation only with normal enviromental GI (Color set slightly darker than the default) with no secondary bounce, and 15 subdivisions and I really love the quality of GI that is coming from this. The shadows fall nicely at the corners and such. I use direct computation (Through VRay lights) on my interior renders and love the results, and now I'm starting to wonder if it may be nice for exteriors as well. The time for hard direct computation is sluggish at best compared to IR. About 1:30 seconds for GI only on a 320x240 image with 50,000 polygons at 15 subdivisions on an Athlon 1800 XP and 512 of ram.

    Any thoughts?
