    i'm gonna go out on a limb and say perhaps the scene is too far away from the origin??

        Just to clairify a litte, it means you scene it to far away from the world grid center in max.

            what that really means is, as said above but also, if the scene or object is too far from origin, there can be raycalculation errors due to vrays nature to adaptivly sample, it may overlook some ray intersections outside of its bounding box. Usually scaling the scene resolves such issues.
