I can get a nice displacement in 2d mode, but when I go to 3d, it all falls apart. In 2d I can crank up the resolution, but the 3d is stuck at 512. I need some brick to wrap around a wall, so I need 3d mod, but I'm not getting any displacement. This, at least for me, has always been an issue. Sometimes it works, but for really high resolution maps, it doesn't work. Am I missing something? Maybe a trick I don't know about?
