  • Stereo helper problem/question

We are developing for the Rift/GearVR and Cardboard devices. In experimenting with stereoscopic spherical panoramas, I have a question about the Vray stereo helper. It is probably best explained by a plan diagram:-

Position '1' is looking straight ahead. This should work fine. However, as we are rendering a full 360 degree FOV, am I right in thinking that the VRay stereo helper will not work as position '3' means that there is no parallax?

In other words, is it actually sensible/possible to use the vray stereo helper to render a stereoscopic spherical panorama?
    Kind Regards,

It's suppose to work out the center of left and right and rotate from there, not only on left or only on right
    Kind Regards,

In my diagram, if you imagine the circles are the eyes (65mm apart) and the centre of them is where the cameras are (one for the left eye and one for the right using the stereo helper), doesn't VRay render a 360 panorama from the centre of the left eye and one from the centre of the right eye and put them next to eachother (in a 4x1 aspect image)?
      Kind Regards,

vray handles this automatically in newer versions - it bends and twists it subtly to keep it correct. basically dont worry about it if you're on 3.2 or above, it just works.

So is that a feature of the 'spherical' camera, the 'spherical panorama' camera, the 'cube 6x1' camera or the VRayStereoscopic helper itself?

I wouldn't know, all I know is at one point it wouldn't work with the spherical panorama and the 6x1 didn't exist, then vlado said it works now and there was also the 6x1 added.

              magic.

My guess is the auto-magic stereo correction only happens when using the VRayStereoscopic helper. Otherwise all those other options are single camera rendering in different formats. It's only when you render in stereo that you need the properly corrected renderings for each eye.

I think this is fixed in newer builds; can you try 3.30.04 ?

                  Best regards,
                  Vlado

I will need a scene for this; can you attach some example here or send it to support@chaosgroup.com ?

                      Best regards,
