Hi,
I got another case of "please improve something that should actually be autodesks job to improve...".
I´m quite often adding volumetric effects in post. I´ve tried using the vray environment fog for this, but I found it in most cases to be too slow to render and impossible to get "god rays", especially in outdoor environmentts.
So usually I end up using good old standard volume light from 3ds max instead.
The two problems here are:
1. I have to add some standard lights for the volume light and use shadow maps.
2. The even bigger issue is that output is just 8 bit, which makes it hard to control in post.
So...unless you are planning some cool environment fog updates, I´d love it if you could add a "Vray volume light" effect that works similar like the 3ds Max volume light effect, but minus the restrictions...
