  • extend vray behind rendering, looking ahead

    Hello,
that post may be a bit long and probably concerned only prescriber (product design studio, architectural studio...) and not CG artist.

I do design (interior archviz and product) so I'm not earning my life by doing CG, that's an important point. I do not sale CG, I used CG to convince clients, somehow vray is a marketing tools.
Nowaday, everything became much mode simple and interactive, and I fill like we are way behind this regarding CG in our field.
We still try to sales ideas with the same old school way.
    Photorealistic render instead of sketches,
digital on an ipad instead of a print,
spherical render instead of several perspective marker layout,
3d printed model instead of hand made mockup,
    .....
but at the end the marketing tools remain the same and it's very frustrating as the tools are diferent the the result is the same. Passive presentation, plus some engadget trick (ipad...) to make it look modern.

What we hear from our client is that they want collaborative tools to be able to accelerate the decision process and short cut the development, not only on the technical part (solidworks...) but for the aesthetic too.
We used to make different color version in front of the client with just a paper layer and a marker in the past, today if the color is not precalculate we are stack and need to planned another meeting!
    Is that a progress?

After an intensive search, I find out that the only tools to date, that may answer this question is the Lumiscaphe suite software, http://www.lumiscaphe.com/en/, and in particular their Portal and Portal SDK that combined the best of 3 world. Real time render, customization by the client, easy UI. here is an example of the result, from the cad model to the configuration, all in one, very straight forward!

If we want to do the same with Vray RT, we will have to hire a lot of coder, webdesigner UI expert, spend at least one years to finally get something that won't be as well integrated as Lumiscaphe and will probably cost 10 time more.

Of course that's not Chaosgroup goal to provide such solution, but I'm sure that Lumiscaphe won't have survive without extending their software offer and expertise to match the customers needs.

My point of view is that we are stack in the past and nowadays lot of render engine can make fast photorealistic render, so what's next Chaos Group?
Working...
