selecting material on Properties panel doesn't show material properties

To repro:
- select an object
- go to the Properties panel
- go to Material panel
- select a material from the material list
- try to open the "Material" sub-panel
- it doesn't show anything

The only way to see something is to go to the Vray Node Editor and select one node.
If it's designed like this, it seems more a bug than a feature, at least because I think that every Blender user expect to see the material properties just selecting the material from the material list.
