Where am I going wrong? (Animation settings)

I would like to render out an animation of this simple blender physics test. I used the settings you can see below, creating the Irradiance maps first using prepass and then rendering using the animation setting. The resulting HD frame takes about 22 minutes and has the artifacts which I suppose are sampling issues. If i do the same frame with no prepass using slightly lower quality settings I have no artifacts and it takes about 3 minutes total to render. The camera in this scene does not move, my question is how would I use the animation settings without these artifacts and get lower times? and if I do render the entire animation using single frame settings will it come out ok or can I expect to get some flickering which I have read can happen?

What V-Ray are you using? I remember there were some issues with prepass/render modes in some old V-Ray version.
You could try increasing "Interpolation frames" param.
You could also try Brute force as primary engine.

Thanks Andrey, I downloaded Vray again about a week ago, it does seem to be the prepass that is giving me trouble. I'll try rendering out some frames using an alternative method and see how it works out.

seanser, btw very nice 2.4 like viewport colors - could you share this theme settings?

Yes I much prefer the 2.49 colours, I think they are less of a strain on the eyes. I'm not sure what file to upload in order to share these settings easily? To be honest I've only made a few colour changes in the user preferences. I'm using the 64bit Windows Blender from this site, if anyone is interested I can upload a compressed folder with it and the .blend of the physics animation, it's about 34 mb in size I can post it wherever is convenient.

seanser, may be you just make a screenshot of theme settings =) But sharing scene is also a good idea - looks like a nice dynamics =) May be compress it and host on http://www.pasteall.org/blend/ (less 30Mb)?
