  • IES Lights Problem

    Dear All,

I can't get the light source itself to be shown, and the light seems to be emitted from an invisible point. I notice that under the "lamp" section there is a checkbox called "invisible" which I did not check. Checking it or not does not make a difference to my render, the light source itself is not shown... Is there a way to make the light emitting lamp show up?

Here are the steps I took (started with a brand new scene, with all default settings):

    1) Add a "Spot" object

    2) Go to the settings panel for the light and select "IES" under the "shape" menu

    3) Load the IES file for the light

    4) Render the image with Vray

I have tried to download many different IES files from different manufacturers but to no avail.

    Please help!

    Thank you very much!

    Hi,

This is how it works. IES is actually a point light with predefined light distribution. Or may be I'm missing smth and may be you could show some image of what are you talking about?

      Thanks for your reply!

If you look at the image below, I can only see the pattern produced by the light, but I can't see the object that is emitting the light. Is there a way to do this? For example, in real life, a light bulb emitting the light. We would have both the light rays as well as the bulb itself emitting the light. In this render, I cannot see the "light bulb" itself. Like you mentioned, it is a point light, but can I modify this point into a sphere or some other shape that emits light?

        Yes, this is not possible.
You could model a light bulb yourself and place is slightly above the light.

Okay thanks! I was quite confused initially because I saw the 'invisible' option in the panel when I used a ies light. So I guess that option should not be there?

Yes, should be removed from UI for that type of light. Thanks!
