  • Distributed rendering won't work due to core version mismatch (Mac)

I have the latest V-Ray 6 installed for Cinema 4D S26, which is fantastic. I have a big project that required purchasing another render node, which I Installed with V-Ray Standalone on my other Mac. So far so good.
Unfortunately, the two won't work together because of a core version mismatch. My main Mac running C4D evidently has core version 60009, while the new node is running 60020.
[2022/Oct/5|16:40:24] Starting DR session from 10.0.0.85
[2022/Oct/5|16:40:24] error: DR request received from client 10.0.0.85 using V-Ray version (60009). Render server V-Ray version (60020).

I've even experimented with downgrading the client version, but there's no perfect match for the core version. It appears there are no nightly builds that might help me solve this.

How exactly does one create a simple DR setup where the client and server share the same core version? I'm thoroughly confused, because (1) core versions aren't divulged on the download pages, and (2) there appears to be no way for me to match a client with a server that has the same core version.

I really need this to work, and don't want to feel like I just wasted my money. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

    Hey, Jeff

Thank you for the report! Both versions of the V-Ray (client-server) should match in order to work properly. Can you check the version, please? Please let me know about the result.

Hi Boyan, thanks for the help!

I believe I have the latest versions of both client and server applications:
      • On my main Mac, I'm running V-Ray 6 for Cinema 4D v6.00.01 from Sep 26 2022. In the 'About' box it says "V-Ray is up-to-date".
      • On my secondary Mac I'm using as a render node, I'm running V-Ray Standalone, version 6 Standalone Hotfix 3 for x64 / build 712da55e from Oct 4 2022 / V-Ray Core version 6.00.20
As reported in my original post, it appears the main issue is that the core version of the client is older than the server's.

        Hey, Jeff,

Thank you for the response. Could you please update your main MAC (Cinema 4D v6.00.01 from Sep 26, 2022) to the latest build? I think the error won't be visible afterward.

        Cheers,

          Hey Boyan,

I would, but I'm unable to find a build that's newer than the one I have. It's the latest one available via the product download page, and as far as I can tell there are no nightly builds for V-Ray 6 for Cinema4D available. Where should I be looking?

          Thanks!

            Hye, Jeff,

You will need to download or install the same version to your server (DR) and your client MAC, so both standalone and client share the same core version, so you need to install the (Cinema 4D v6.00.01 from Sep 26, 2022) to you DR !!!!!
Please check here how to install the V-Ray standalone only: https://docs.chaos.com/display/VS4ED...Ray+Standalone

EDIT : Better check my video file vncviewer_2022-10-06_13-10-41.7z
            ================================================== ====================
Update to the latest stable build. Please check this path: https://nightlies.chaos.com/main#/vr...e/6.0/20221006.
If you don't have access, please write to the support team. They will grant you, I assume.

Please let me know if you need more information or if the error continues to appear.

            Cheers,

              Hello jeff_boyd,

Please make sure to install the Standalone version of V-Ray on your render node using the V-Ray for Cinema4D installer. Download the same installer that you are using on your main machine. Then click on Advanced and select "Standalone only". This will install the same version of V-Ray standalone as the one, used on your main machine. Please check this video. Let me know if you need further assistance.

Hi aleksandar.kasabov, thank you so much – that's all I needed. I'm new to DR and foolishly overlooked this critical point. My issue is now solved!
boyan, I really appreciate the help as well.

Side note: A simple How To guide for setting up DR for people who are unfamiliar with it would be very helpful. There are many good troubleshooting articles on the topic, but most of them assume you've already got it set up.

                Thanks again,
                Jeff
