  • (fixed) [HOU-3026] (fixed) [HOU-2979] Vray TexTriplanar Node / Texture orientation doesn't work

Hi, Can someone advice on how to change the orientation of Vray Triplanar Texture?
    Texture rotation has no effect.
    Frame offset has no effect.
Same for all the Random options... it doesn't change anything.

    Thanks.

    I am using
    V-Ray for Houdini number:17945 hash:829ac5d from 25 Oct 2021 04:53 (build number:17945)
    V-Ray Core 5.10.20 [cc973758] from 23 Oct 2021

      Hey creac ,

I'll check right away - apologies for the delay. I'll be back with more info once I know more.

      Best regards!

Hi Gosho.Genchev, did you have a chance to look at it?..It seems to be an issue with .exr texture... I don't have the issue with .jpg
        Thanks!

Using uv_randomizer seems to do the trick for now..

            Dear creac, hello.

We have encountered this problematic behaviour of VRayTriPlanar and the issue is logged in our system with HOU-2979 number for further investigation.
You will be notified when something new comes up.

Thank you for pointing this out!

            Best regards,

Hi tsvetomira.girginova, I also noticed that the VrayTriplanar is view dependent, which is pretty weird to use. I guess it is part of the problematic behavior, but I just wanted to point this as well. I hope this can be fixed soon! thanks!

Could you send me a hip file where it is?

Hi, See attached the images. After the triplanar material is applied whatever the transformation you do the triplanar projection stays the same. The triplanar doesn't "follow" the transformation..

                    Hello again creac,

The initially described from you is now fixed in our latest nightly builds.
In the provided now file I see that you are using GPU rendering, please keep this note in mind.

Now I have tested the second pointer and could approve that it is working as expected, see here.
In conclusion, please download one of the latest builds suitable for you Houdini version and confirm what the results are.

                    Waiting for your answer.
                    Enjoy the weekend.

Does that mean that you can't apply transformation to triplanar?

I think it is well shown at the attached image - the view dependent thing - it is not happening with the latest builds.
Please check on your side and if something is misunderstood we will continue the discussion and the debugging process.

Hi tsvetomira.girginova , I just installed the nighties and did a test and it still the same issue. If you apply triplanar material on an object then apply a transformation, the transformation is only applied on the geometry. The triplanar material doesn't follow the transformation..so it is still view dependent..
