  • Time filter?

Anyone seen or tried this? www.cemyuksel.com/software/TimeFilter/
He says, "The correct way to get rid of this flickering is to use a temporal interpolation along with the common spatial interpolation". Confusing,.. but I was wondering
if this method is being used in Vray at all.

    thx

vray does a much more intelligent version of this concept with its "animation mode" for the irradiance map, blending lighting solutions over a number of frames to remove high frequency noise. as a concept it has its limitations, and due to the extra interpolation of lighting samples required, can be pretty slow.

if im not mistaken this method of temporal blending of lighting, was pioneered by pixar in the film "cars"

ive not tested the software you linked to, but since it works on finished frames, i cant imagine its much more than some kind of frame blending system, and as such i cannot see how it could produce a useful result, since it will blend -everything- over time, not just the flickering gi.

Yes, like super gnu pointed out, the animation mode of the irradiance map does just that. Also as pointed out, it has some limitations - first, more irradiance samples need to be processed, and second, the interpolation itself is slower with the addition of the time dimension. Nevertheless, it can be useful...
