  • IPR Differences between PCs

    Hi all,

I'm getting an issue with my PC and my render node. When rendering using RTX I get lighting differences, it seems to happen with progressive and bucket mode. Please see the attached preview of an IPR in progress.

All assets are accounted for in the File Path Editor and are in my project's folders, and the render node has full access to my working drive.

Both PCs run the same version of Windows 10 22H2, Maya 2025.1, V-Ray 6 update 2.2 V6.20.02. I'm rendering using an RTX 4090 card on my main PC, and there's an RTX3080Ti in my render node PC. I'm using Aces_1.2\config.ocio - the same on both PCs.

Is there any chance anybody might know why this is happening?

Best you send the scene so we can troubleshoot.

Hi, thanks for posting. Is this issue happening if you use the Maya default ocio colour space? Is this issue happening with CUDA? Are you able to reproduce the issue in other scenes? Are you able to reproduce the issue in a new simple scene?

Apologies for the late reply... I'll get the scene and assets sent over to you now.

After doing some tests it occurs when using RTX with adaptive lights (number of lights set to 8, there are 8 lights on in my scene). The glitchy blocks of darker colour are happening on a Maya directional light that is simulating the sunlight. Stills attached of the directional light pass from the light mix element.

RTX with Full Evaluation - still glitchy, with more lighting differences than with adaptive.

I tried out both with different light evaluations as changing this to full evaluation has fixed this issue on another project, on another PC.

Please leave the old project and the other PC aside. From what you are showing with the examples above there are issues with CUDA and RTX that are not fixed by going to full light eval. so leave you settings to default for now.
By the way did you try to reset your V-Ray settings to default and check if this will clear the artefacts?
Let's review the scene and we will see.

Is there a way to reset the settings like that in the Maya version? Many thanks for reviewing the scene and for your time!

This is how you can reset your V-Ray settings to default in Maya - https://support.chaos.com/hc/en-us/a...V-Ray-for-Maya
Sorry about that I am constantly switching between the two sections of the forum and forgot for a moment you were using Maya.

No problem! Ah yes of course, there it is. Thank you, I'll try that now.

Unfortunately, the reset doesn't work on my end: Maya gives this error when selecting Default Settings.

// Error: file: C:/Program Files/Autodesk/Maya2025/scripts/others/createMayaSoftwareCommonGlobalsTab.mel line 36: setParent: Object 'commonTabColumn' not found.

Hi, this is strange. It is happening only with Maya 2025. There is an error message but the settings seem to reset properly. We will investigate this further.
As for the main issue with the render artefacts, the scene is with us and we will keep you posted.
