random checker texture

Hi,

I've tried using the method in this tutorial:

in maya software this works but not in vray, I'm getting these warnings and a gray color.

// Warning: Unsupported texture kExpression //
// Warning: [CommonMappedTexture] No uvw generator specified. //

is there a way to make this work or to achieve the same result? (randomized colors in a 'checkerpattern')

actually I'd prefer a different method because even in Maya software this is buggy..
