I have a scene setup up with lights including a finite dome light, some cosmos assets and was going to transfer the setup to grasshopper to do animations. First issue I encountered was the option to make the dome light with hdr image a finite dome light with the expected options associated with it. Don't see any option for that in GH. Next adding a rectangle light I don't see options for decay, caustic photons etc. I'm using a slightly out of date version 6.20.03 for reference.
Next is understanding the camera- still learning how to transfer the rhino camera to grasshopper consistently. I've already posted a thread on it regarding DOF but received no response so I will put it in here. Based on researching forums both here and mcneel, focal length number in rhino viewport is not the same number as what vray says it is in image render info because (according to a thread I read) theres some calculation needed to match it? still havent figured that out but I was able to get the grasshopper view to match the view I set up in rhino.
Problem with DOF is I had it originally set it up using the fixed point in vray option within rhino, so I took that exact point and created a line from that point to the camera position to get that distance to use for GH dof focus, but it does not match. if I change that value it either makes everything out of focus or everything in focus. I think what I need is a focus "zone" where the center being the fixed point is considered sharp and further away is out of focus and way to control the size of this zone because as I mentioned, if I set it to sharp focus, everything in the entire scene is sharp. All camera settings in GH match vray settings as far as f-stop, shutter speed, angle etc so I expect the same dof result. Not sure what I'm doing wrong and documentation has zero details how to use it besides me testing a thousand times to understand what its doing.
What would be nice is to have chaos support setup a simple scene and render in vray with a fixed point option and identical grasshopper scene that generates the same result.
