  • Rendering 3dS Max Tiles doesn't work properly when rendering by GPU

    Hi,

I have 2xRTX 3090 and would like to render some chosen bitmaps as input to the 3ds Max Tiles (map). When I choose V-Ray update 1.2, all works perfectly and I can even see the low-res image of the tiles with their bitmaps in viewport. In this case the render comes high quality as well. But when I go back to V-Ray GPU, update 2.1, viewport doesn't show the materials and the image doesn't show in the rendering at all. I tried many scenarios to isolate the issue. It seems that Tiles function is not compatible with V-Ray GPU. Am I correct? Also, I tried to use OSL alternative, because I have a lot of tiling to do, but I got the same result with GPU renderer. It basically doesn't work. It seems it has something to do with proper mapping or the bitmap to the Tile procedure. Because I am fairly inexperienced, perhaps I am doing something wrong. I appreciate any help, advice, or workaround.

    Thanks

Seems to work fine on my end. Could you attach a simple scene here so we can take a look? Screencaps of your results would be great as well.

Thanks for looking into it. The forum didn't allow me to upload the .max file, so I renamed this test file to .txt, but it is a .max file. If you render it with CPU it does it correctly. However, if you render it with Vray GPU it comes black.

A colleague of mine seems to have already answered you by e-mail. Just to have it in writing here, the Real-world mapping and Noise parameters of the 3ds Max native Tiles map are not yet supported on V-Ray GPU. The issue (internal bug-tracker id: VGPU-5398 ) is already logged for developer analysis. As a workaround, the Tiles map should be baked (Render to texture) prior to rendering.
