  • RT: Failed to start network server error

I am not able to run RT. My license for Vray is loading fine. But when I try to open up the active shade window, it says "waiting for image data....." and nothing ever happens. I opened up the V-Ray RT render server dialogue box and there is an error message that says "error: Failed to start network server: Failed to open listening port (10048 ) Exiting server mode.

I can render fine with Vray, but need to get my RT window working....help, I'm desperate.

It means that there is already another instance of the V-Ray RT render server running (probably it is registered as a Windows service).

    Best regards,

It's running ok now in 3DS Max 2009, but I still get an error message in 2010. "Render host boxx-1 (127.0.0.1) disconnected error."

I also have exactly the same problem on one of 9 render boxes:
        error:Render host PCxxxx (ip) disconnected
The moment RT reports above error, RT render server reports "Closing DR session from ip" like when you normally close RT in max.

I tried all the usuall things but with no success. I am inclined to think that this problem is to do with some network settings (firewall is disabled btw).

It is maybe interesting to mention that this is the box that i can not connect to with dameware for whatever reason (error: multiple connection to a server or a shared resource by the same user name, not allowed)

I woud really appreciate any help with this also!

I have the same problem as you guys, with vray RT not starting anymore : always complaining that it cannot open listening port 10048.
The strange thing is that it happened suddenly. It was working ok, and then bam, nothing.
I tried restarting my computer, removing vrayRT as a service. But nothing helps.

Open the task manager, go to the "processes" tab, make sure that the "show processes from all users" option is enabled. Do you see vray.exe listed there?

            Best regards,
            Vlado

              Ok, I tried a few things :
              - I have indeed vray.exe running. If I shut it down, vrayRT still doesn't work
              - I tried creating a new scene with just a box, and vrayRT works fine
              - I tried merging my project into that new scene, but then vrayRT doesn't work anymore.

I spent the last couple of hours turning off objects of my scene one by one until I found the responsible : a simple plane with cutout people texture applied. Once deleted everything came back to normal. Very odd
