  • vraylightdome with openEXR : image too bright

    Hello,
I'm using vray 2 on a new project for the first time
I'm using a vray domelight with an openexr map for lightiing the scene.
The problem I have is that the results between vrayRT and the actual vray rendering are totally rendeing : vrayrt preview is overbright and totally blown out.
Is this a limitation of vrayRT when lighting with an openEXR or am I doing something wrong ?
Tha openexr image itself is left unchanged (just spherical environment mapping) and the vraylight intensity is set to 1.
I attached scrrencaps of both vrayRT preview and vray render

Are you using a VRayPhysicalCamera in "Movie" or "Video" mode? There is a known issue with this (already corrected for future builds, but didn't go into the release). Other than that, the dome light with OpenEXR files works fine here.

    Best regards,
    Vlado

I currently I have the same problem. Exr image addition is the same as mine, "Peter Guthrie sky". Not so?
There any way to solve this?

      Greetings.

If you send me the scene plus the .exr file to vlado@chaosgroup.com I will be able to tell you more.

        Best regards,

yes indeed kiteman : I am using one of two exrs I bought from peter guthrie.
I have to say I haven't tried with exrs from others sources, or other formats.

As for the camera it is a still vrayphysicalcamera

Just did a quick test with some HDR images converted to EXR, but everything seems normal...

Ok, I tried opening the EXR through VrayHDRI and not the standard max bitmap map and now it works.
It's strange because when I was working on previous max versions I always opened the exrs with standard max bitmap and it worked fine. Now i'm on max 2011. Did they change something in the openexr import plugin or what ?

Yes, there is a new OpenEXR loader in 3ds Max 2011 (written by Cebas).
