  • CUDA devices doesnt work after installing vray 3.30.03

    Hi,
I have installed latest vray version for 3ds max but when i started up max and my scene (or any scene), cuda or opencl doesnt work anymore.
    It worked fine in 3.20.03.
This is in max 2016, windows 10(64bit). One 980 GTX TI card onboard. nvidia driver 358.?? (now 359.06)
I have done the following to try to make it work.
    1. ran the utility for selecting opencl, the cards showed up there and after some troubleshooting managed to get it selected and set up.
    2. Updated the nvidia driver. (i read in the vray help that the driver 350 was tested and worked but 352 and 353 had issues... then what about 359??) I tried to find the 350 driver on nvidia but cant seem to download such an old driver. The legacy section on nvidia goes back only so many versions.
    3. reinstalled vray, rebooted.....
    4. I also see that Iray doesnt have the device either.

Anyone experienced that the CUDA stopped working in max after installation of vray 3.30? And is there some command or environment attribute issue I can manually do to correct this... or maybe a config file that needs to be erased.
I was thinking it is an windows security issue with files, folders and permissions.

There is an option, "In-process", in the V-Ray RT settings. What happens if you disable it?

Do you have any other GPUs?

    Best regards,

      The same issue.

if "In-process" Option On, crashes in RT CUDA ActiveShade mode.

      crash confirming in following environment:
      Win7 + 3dsMax2015 and 2016 + VRay 3.30.03 + GTX 460 + Driver 358.50
      Win7 + 3dsMax2015 and 2016 + VRay 3.30.03 +GTX 750 Ti + Driver 353.06
      Win7 + 3dsMax2015 + VRay 3.30.03 + Quadro6000 tesla C2075 + latest driver

when "In-process" is off no problem.
      V-Ray side problem?

        Hi,
yes it seems that when i turn off the In-process RT engine things work. At least it renders.

I don't think it's the same issue. It would help if you can provide more details - do you see your GPUs listed in the "V-Ray RT Render Devices Select" rollout?

          Best regards,
          Vlado

            It is only one device.
Here is VRayLog.txt. (simple teapot scene)
            Win7 + 3dsMax2015 + VRay3.30.03 + quadro k4200 + 354.56 WHQL (same issue)

              Hello,

Seems to me like there are two separate issues:

Nils A. Brekke - for some reason CUDA is disabled at all for 3ds Max. As IRay also doesn't start - this seems like a nVidia/Autodesk issue. Is it possible that CUDA is disabled for 3ds Max somehow (in the nVidia Control panel you can specify per application settings) ?

flat - if that crash happens on every scene it would be best to write to support at chaosgroup.com

              Best regards,
