  • Randomly getting errors when rendering matte objects

I suddenly started having problem with matte objects. Randomly I will get errors and the render will either not run or it will run but the object won't be matte.

I either get this error: ocl_tracedevice.cpp(1636) : invalid value (and then the render doesn't even run) or I get this warning message: Matte render elements are missing, matte property cannot be set! You may need to restart the renderer. and the render runs but the object is not matte.

Please check the attached screenshots, scenes and video.

Do you by any chance have your render elements disabled?

Yes, I actually had them disabled! I turned them back on and this fixed it in the scene with the green warning but not in the scene with the red warning. Is this a limitation in RT? Is there a way to keep the render elements disabled and still render shadow catchers? Disabling them from the Elements active button prevents rendering the catchers and the VrayVFB button in the elements doesn't work in RT.

You have to have the render elements enabled in order to use matte shadows on the GPU. https://docs.chaosgroup.com/display/...jectsproperly?

Thanks for the link, quite a bit of useful information in there. I'll make sure I read the whole page.
