Hi, a blue screen indicates some issue with the hardware or the OS, V-Ray can't be the culprit for a blue screen. More about that can be found in the Blue Screen of Death error article.
You are experiencing 3ds Max crashes as well so it still makes sense for us to review the scene.
Please test your hardware once again and if you feel like the issue could be related to V-Ray, send us the scene in the ticket that you have already opened (ticket number: 306347).

      Thanks for the suggestions.
I have a new cpu arriving tomorrow so will go through a process of seeing if that solves it.
If not then I'll check the ram again stick by stick and the motherboard and something should eventually happen I guess.
I just have to throw money at it until something works

I've had a great deal of help from others also, so the combined effort will end up with a workable deal one way or the other

      I hate computers....a bit

Nothing worse than hardware issues. Good luck!

I'm happy to report that on replacing the cpu for an upgraded version it has solved the problems entirely, without having to spend a fortune.
Thanks to those that responded with suggestions etc..

What a stressful entire week that was!

            Interesting.

So you put a new CPU in the same mobo with the same RAM? Did you update your BIOS (like to support a 9950x or something)?

Glad it is working for you!

Full disclosure...'I' didn't do anything but my friend did just that yeah. For some irrational reason the hardware side of things has always distressed me a little
He knows what he's doing fortunately, so did all the proper things with the Bios etc., and it all worked out.

As a bonus, a fresh Windows also solved a couple of other non-critical but nevertheless annoying little things with my audio interface, so that's cool.

The thing that was stressing me out was that I needed to make this deadline, or so I thought.
My client however has been ridiculously slow at updating me with a piece of their data that I need to complete it, so even that turned out to be a 'non' deadline

So anyway, I can now safely chill out and go back to building my in-game space station...

Glad it’s working. I was just thinking that a bios update can often fix memory issues.
