1.5 matte option not working???

maybe I’m just doing something wrong, but the settings we use to use for this no longer work.

I’ve got a vray plane. I apply a material wrapper and put a vray material in for the base (just plain near white), then apply it to the vray plane.

I change the material wrapper to -1.0 alpha contribution and check effect shadows and alpha.

That use to work, but now it does nothing.

So I thought, “lets just do it for the object.” I chose vray properties on the vrayplane. Checked the matte option and applied -1 to alpha contribution. It renders invisible again.

I have a light casting shadows and placed a plane just above the vray plane just to make sure it wasn’t working. the plane does cast shadows on another plane, but not onto the vray plane in which I am trying to cast shadows.

Can someone tell me what I am doing wrong?

I’m having the same problem. And I did the exact same things as you - and in the same order. I’m still on 1.48.02

Is there an issue with the vraysun not casting shadows on matte objects?

If I use a default vraymat on everything, shadows appear as they should. When I switch to the matte objects for receiving shadows, they receive none.

Any ideas?

I’m not even using vray sun.

I am, however, using the new IBL, image based lighting, and one photometric light. Although, i would think the photometric light should cast the shadow without a problem. It did in my tests…just not on the matte object.

Anyone else had this issue? I haven’t had it until 1.5

This seems to work fine here as far as I could test, so if you have a scene for this, you can try sending it to vlado@chaosgroup.com

Do you use the physical camera, by the way? Is the “affect background” option for color mapping on or off?

Hello,
did you find any issue about this?
I reset 3dsmax, drawing a box whit a cilinder on top, one light, doing the box matte object via vray object parameters, -1 alpha… and doesn’t work. It doesn’t matter if I check or uncheck affect background.
That was using 3ds9 64bit, Vray 90 RC4a 64bit.
If I do the same in the old 1.47 version, it works as always.
Maybe to produce the same effect as before I should change some other thing.

Any help would be appreciated.

Manuel
